When my grandparents took my sister and me on summer-long cross country road trips, it became a tradition to bring three key musical selections: a 9 CD set of the “fabulous fifties,” a 2 CD set of Neil Diamond – and a 2 CD set of Johnny Cash. That low, sad voice was a big part of my childhood and continues to give me chills to this day.
Johnny Cash’s cover of the Nine Inch Nails song “Hurt” is one of the most consistently moving songs for me. Apparently, NIN’s Trent Reznor wasn’t too keen on the idea of a Johnny Cash cover of the song, but was ultimately moved to tears by Cash’s rendition and the accompanying music video.
RIP Man in Black.

That is such a powerful video knowing the circumstances of his life at that point.
