Quotable Quickie: On the Divisive Issue of Gun Control (and Everything Else We Like to Twist Our Knickers Over)

“The only thing that will redeem mankind is cooperation.”

Bertrand Russell (1872 – 1970)

Yesterday, President Obama announced a plea of executive action: common sense gun control laws now.

I’m not going to get into any gun rights debates today – maybe tomorrow, but not today. Mr. Russell’s words above represent my feelings on this issue and most “issues” dividing people right now. I’m not sure where to begin with this cooperation thing, but I do know finger pointing and frothy shouting at one another has got to take a back seat to vulnerable, authentic communication much, much sooner rather than later.

  1. Neoliberal Wallstreet Pawn or not, knowing mass-murderer of god knows how many of the victims of US foreign policy, the man got me to cry with him. His administration has been in fact one of the most murderous of them all (just like JFK’s in fact, Chomsky it on youtube for backing), but those tears for those AMERICAN kids were real, and i can love him for that while keeping my eyes wide open.

    1. We can only talk about this more often if we do it more rationally. It becomes an exercise in futility when either or both sides decide to just talk at each other and maintain that opinions are, in fact, fact. You’re not asking for the impossible, just the very, very difficult.
