Quotable Quickie: Love is a Struggle & Never Forget

“Love isn’t a state of perfect caring. It is an active noun like struggle. To love someone is to strive to accept that person exactly the way he or she is, right here and now.” – Fred Rogers

I recently saw that “Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood” had been added to Netflix. Not going to lie: I was almost crying by the end of the first episode. Was Mr. Rogers real? He was too good to be true. (Is there any dirt on him?) What a human being filled to bursting with active compassion. He was no passive bystander.

I am honoring today and all those affected near and far with a sliver of the exemplary kindness and service of Mr. Rogers. I was only 8 years old in 2001 and I live on the west coast, so my memory of that day is not too clear. However, I strive to honor today with a sustaining, active compassion – a feeling I am working to employ on a daily basis, not only on days of social significance. No longer mere vulnerable larvae, we must remember the developments we have made, how hard we have struggled, and that we will continue to struggle through the pain in the chrysalis of this world, as we push toward the breath of love.

Never forget.
